Target Information
TSPAN9 is a member of the tetraspan family, characterized by four predicted transmembrane domains. It is involved in physiological processes such as tissue differentiation, immune responses, and sperm-egg fusion.
Recently identified as a platelet tetraspanin, TSPAN9 is part of tetraspanin microdomains that include the collagen receptor GPVI and integrin alpha6beta1, but not the von Willebrand receptor GPIbalpha or integrins alphaIIbbeta3 and alpha2beta1.
These findings suggest that TSPAN9 may regulate platelet function in concert with other tetraspanins and associated proteins.
