Target Information

This antibody recognizes the constant region of immunoglobulin heavy chains.
Immunoglobulins (antibodies) are membrane-bound or secreted glycoproteins produced by B lymphocytes.
In the recognition phase of humoral immunity, membrane-bound immunoglobulins act as receptors that trigger clonal expansion and differentiation of B lymphocytes into plasma cells upon antigen binding.
Secreted immunoglobulins mediate the effector phase of humoral immunity, eliminating bound antigens (PubMed:22158414, PubMed:20176268).
Each immunoglobulin has two antigen-binding sites formed by variable domains of heavy and light chains.
The variable domains are assembled by V-(D)-J rearrangement and undergo somatic hypermutation for affinity maturation (PubMed:17576170, PubMed:20176268).
