Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is responsible for illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death. The Spike (S) protein mediates viral attachment, fusion, and entry, making it a key target for antibody and vaccine development.
The receptor-binding domain (RBD, S-RBD) of the Spike protein binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, exhibiting higher affinity than SARS-CoV RBD. The S1 subunit contains the RBD responsible for ACE2 binding on target cells.
