Target Information
SMARCA2 encodes a protein that belongs to the SWI/SNF family and is highly similar to the brahma protein of Drosophila. These proteins possess helicase and ATPase activities and regulate transcription by altering chromatin structure. The encoded protein is part of the ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SNF/SWI, essential for activation of genes repressed by chromatin. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified, containing a trinucleotide repeat (CAG) length polymorphism.
