Target Information
Single-stranded DNA-binding proteins (SSBs) are essential for DNA function in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, mitochondria, phages, and viruses. Replication protein A (RPA) is a highly conserved eukaryotic heterotrimeric SSB composed of three subunits that play critical roles in DNA replication, recombination, and repair.
RPA is a key damage-recognition factor in the early stage of nucleotide excision repair and may contribute to telomere maintenance. Human RPA (hRPA) binds DNA with molecular polarity, initially attaching to the 5′ side of ssDNA and extending toward the 3′ end for stable binding.
RPA4 (Replication Factor A Protein 4), a 34 kDa subunit containing 261 amino acids, localizes to the nucleus and is preferentially expressed in the mucosa of the colon and placenta.
