Target Information
Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and perform diverse functions including transcriptional activation or repression. Most zinc-finger proteins have a Kruppel-type DNA-binding domain and a KRAB domain, which interacts with KAP1 to recruit histone-modifying proteins.
ZNF396, also known as PRDM17 (PR domain zinc finger protein 17), is a 720 amino acid nuclear protein with 10 C2H2-type zinc fingers. The ZNF408 gene is located on human chromosome 11, which contains over 1,400 genes and represents nearly 4% of the human genome.
Defects in genes on chromosome 11 are associated with disorders such as Jervell and Lange-Nielsen syndrome, Jacobsen syndrome, Niemann-Pick disease, hereditary angioedema, and Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome.
