Target Information
Platelet factor-4 (PF4) is a 70-amino acid protein released from the alpha-granules of activated platelets. It binds with high affinity to heparin and neutralizes heparin-like molecules on endothelial surfaces, inhibiting local antithrombin III activity and promoting coagulation. PF4 also acts as a chemoattractant for neutrophils and fibroblasts, suggesting roles in inflammation and wound repair (Eisman et al., 1990).
