Sulfotransferase 효소는 다양한 호르몬, 신경전달물질, 약물 및 외인성 화합물의 황산화(conjugation) 반응을 촉매합니다. 이 세포질 효소들은 조직 분포 및 기질 특이성이 다르며, 유전자 구조(엑손의 수와 길이)는 패밀리 구성원 간 유사합니다. 본 유전자는 열안정성 효소 활성을 가진 두 개의 phenol sulfotransferase 중 하나를 암호화하며, 두 가지 이소폼을 생성하는 여러 대체 스플라이싱 변이가 보고되어 있습니다.
