Target Information
Girdin (CCDC88A) is a Galpha-interacting protein that enhances activation of protein kinase Akt, remodels the actin cytoskeleton, and is implicated in cell migration and cancer metastasis.
It interacts with Disrupted-in-Schizophrenia 1 (DISC1), a gene associated with psychiatric disorders. DISC1 plays a role in migration and differentiation of dentate granule cells (DGCs) during development.
Depletion or inhibition of Girdin-DISC1 interaction leads to defects in axonal sprouting and mispositioning of DGCs, suggesting Girdin’s role in postnatal neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus.
