Product Specific Information

PA1-30119 detects DC-SIGN from human samples.

Target Information

This gene encodes a transmembrane receptor often referred to as DC-SIGN due to its expression on dendritic cells and macrophages. The encoded protein participates in the innate immune system and recognizes a wide range of pathogens including parasites and viruses.
It consists of three main domains:

  • N-terminal transmembrane domain
  • Tandem-repeat neck domain
  • C-type lectin carbohydrate recognition domain

The extracellular region (neck + lectin domains) functions both as a pathogen recognition receptor and a cell adhesion receptor. The neck region facilitates homo-oligomerization, enabling multivalent ligand binding with high avidity.
Variations in the number of 23 amino acid repeats in the neck domain affect ligand binding ability.
DC-SIGN is closely related to L-SIGN (GeneID 10332) but differs in ligand-binding properties and tissue distribution.
Alternative splicing produces multiple variants.
