Target Information
The MAFF gene encodes a basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor lacking a transactivation domain. It binds the US-2 DNA element in the oxytocin receptor (OTR) gene promoter and likely heterodimerizes with other leucine zipper proteins to enhance OTR expression during term pregnancy. Homodimers may act as transcriptional repressors. This gene may also play a role in the cellular stress response. Multiple transcript variants encoding two isoforms have been identified.
