Target Information
MMP-19 (also known as RASI-1 or MMP-18) is a 508 amino acid peptide originally isolated as an autoantigen from the synovium of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Its expression on activated PBMCs, TH1 lymphocytes, and Jurkat T lymphoma cells in RA synovium suggests a role in joint tissue destruction. MMP-19 is present in smooth muscle cells of large blood vessels in RA patients but not in endothelial layers. Strong expression in inflamed synovial capillaries indicates its involvement in angiogenesis. MMP-19 mRNA (2.7 kb) is found in various tissues including mammary gland, placenta, lung, pancreas, ovary, small intestine, spleen, thymus, prostate, testis, colon, and heart.
