Target Information
The hnRNP AB gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). These proteins are produced by RNA polymerase II and are components of heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA) complexes. They associate with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport. While most hnRNPs are nuclear, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm.
The encoded protein binds to a component of the multiprotein editosome complex and contains two quasi-RRM (RNA recognition motif) domains that bind RNAs. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
