Target Information
TRPCs are mammalian homologs of the Drosophila transient receptor potential (trp) protein and function as ion channels mediating capacitative calcium entry into cells. TRP-PLIK acts as both an ion channel and a kinase, conducting calcium and monovalent cations, leading to depolarization and increased intracellular calcium levels. Its kinase activity enables autophosphorylation and substrate phosphorylation, essential for channel function, dependent on intracellular ATP and confirmed by kinase mutants.
