TMEM8A는 GPI-anchor 성숙 과정의 지질 리모델링 단계에 관여하며, GPI-anchor 단백질(GPI-AP)의 sn-2 위치에서 2개의 포화 지방산 사슬을 생성하는 역할을 합니다.
Phospholipase A2 활성을 가지며 GPI-anchor의 sn-2 위치에서 아실 사슬을 제거합니다.
TDGF1의 세포 표면 shedding에 필요하며, 이는 Nodal 신호 전달을 조절합니다.
또한 RAC1의 세포질에서 세포막으로의 이동에 간접적으로 관여하여, CAV1이 풍부한 세포막 영역을 안정화합니다.
