Target Information
This gene belongs to a family of neurotrophic factors (neurotrophins) that regulate survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. Expression is ubiquitous and less influenced by environmental signals. Knock-outs of other neurotrophins such as NGF, BDNF, and NT3 are lethal during early postnatal development, whereas NTF5-deficient mice show minor cellular deficits and develop normally to adulthood.
