Target Information
Prostaglandins are produced by the metabolism of arachidonic acid. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is one of the five physiologically significant prostanoids. Its effects are mediated through Prostaglandin E2 receptors (EP1, EP2, EP3, and EP4), influencing immune, endocrine, cardiovascular, renal, and reproductive systems, as well as smooth muscle function.
EP2 receptors are 358-amino-acid G-protein coupled receptors that stimulate adenylyl cyclase via Gs coupling and do not undergo PGE2-induced internalization. They are mainly localized in lung and placental tissues and are involved in smooth muscle contraction and relaxation.
