This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif, the F-box.
F-box proteins form part of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex (SCFs: SKP1–Cullin–F-box), which functions in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
They are classified into three groups:
- Fbws: Contain WD-40 domains
- Fbls: Contain leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs: Contain diverse interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
The FBXL7 protein belongs to the Fbls class, containing several tandem leucine-rich repeats in addition to the F-box.
