Target Information
Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and participate in multiple cellular signaling pathways. They serve as major receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters.
Each PKC family member exhibits distinct expression profiles and functional roles, including B cell activation, apoptosis induction, endothelial cell proliferation, and intestinal sugar absorption. Mouse studies suggest involvement in neuronal regulation and stress-related behavior.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
