Target Information
Fatty acid binding proteins (FABP) are small (approximately 13–14 kDa) intracellular proteins exhibiting high tissue specificity. FABPs bind long-chain fatty acids and play important roles in intracellular fatty acid metabolism. There are at least six distinct FABP types, each showing unique tissue expression patterns. Due to their small size, FABPs leak rapidly from damaged or dying cells, leading to elevated serum levels. Liver FABP serves as a sensitive marker for hepatocyte damage both in vitro and in vivo, and its absence can aid in identifying chemically damaged tissues. FABP3 is valuable for studies involving fatty acid metabolism, cell damage, and toxicology assays.
