Target Information
ME1 encodes a cytosolic, NADP-dependent enzyme that generates NADPH for fatty acid biosynthesis.
The enzyme catalyzes the reversible oxidative decarboxylation of malate, linking glycolytic and citric acid cycles.
Expression regulation is complex; increased expression can result from elevated thyroid hormone levels or higher dietary carbohydrate proportions.
