Target Information
Ran/TC4-binding protein (RanBP1) interacts specifically with GTP-charged RAN. The RANBP1 gene encodes a 23-kDa protein that binds to RAN complexed with GTP but not GDP. It does not activate GTPase activity of RAN but enhances GTP hydrolysis by RanGAP1. The human RANBP1 protein (201 amino acids) shares 92% similarity with its mouse homolog and acts as a negative regulator of RCC1 by inhibiting RCC1-stimulated guanine nucleotide release from RAN.
