SLC29A3는 nucleoside 및 nucleobase의 흡수를 담당하는 equilibrative nucleoside transporter 계열 단백질로, nucleotide 합성의 salvage pathway에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 이 단백질은 lysosomal membrane에 위치하는 transmembrane glycoprotein이며, 넓은 선택성과 낮은 친화도를 가진 nucleoside transporter입니다.
SLC29A3 유전자 변이는 H syndrome과 관련이 있으며, 이는 피부 과색소침착 및 다모증, 간비비대, 심장 이상, 성선 기능 저하 등의 증상을 나타냅니다. 또한, PHID(pigmented hypertrichosis with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus) 증후군도 이 유전자 변이와 연관되어 있습니다.
