Target Information
MAP2K4 (MEK4) is a serine/threonine kinase of the STE7 family that phosphorylates and activates JNK1/2 and p38. It preferentially phosphorylates the tyrosine residues of JNKs and mediates various physiological and pathophysiological processes such as responses to cellular stress and inflammatory cytokines. MAP2K4 plays important roles in carcinogenesis, with loss-of-function mutations found in lung and pancreatic tumors, while also exhibiting pro-oncogenic roles in certain contexts.
