Target Information
Noggin is involved in numerous developmental processes, such as neural tube fusion and joint formation. Organ morphogenesis is initiated by downgrowth from epithelial stem cells, regulated by signals from WNT3A (stabilizing beta-catenin) and Noggin, a bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) inhibitor.
Mutations in the Noggin gene have been associated with proximal symphalangism (SYM1) and multiple synostoses syndrome (SYNS1), characterized by multiple joint fusions.
