Target Information
MLC1 may function as a transporter or a non-selective neuronal cation channel. Although its precise role is unknown, sequence homology suggests it may be an integral membrane transporter. Mutations in this gene are linked to megalencephalic leukoencephalopathy with subcortical cysts, an autosomal recessive neurological disorder. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
