Target Information

E2F5 is a member of the E2F family of transcription factors. The E2F family plays a crucial role in the control of the cell cycle and the action of tumor suppressor proteins. It is also a target of transforming proteins of small DNA tumor viruses.
E2F proteins contain conserved domains, including:

• DNA binding domain
• Dimerization domain (for interaction with DP proteins)
• Transactivation domain enriched in acidic amino acids
• Tumor suppressor protein association domain

E2F5 is differentially phosphorylated and expressed in a wide range of human tissues. It shares higher identity with E2F4 than with other E2F members. Both E2F5 and E2F4 interact with tumor suppressor proteins p130 and p107, but not with pRB. Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
