Target Information

Protein Z (PROZ) is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein (62 kDa, 396 amino acids) with four domains: a gla-rich region, two EGF-like domains, and a trypsin-like domain.
It is structurally related to serine proteases such as factors VII, IX, X, and protein C but lacks catalytic activity.
Protein Z participates in the coagulation cascade by accelerating the degradation of factor Xa through protein Z-dependent protease inhibitor (ZPI).
Deficiency in Protein Z has been variably associated with thrombosis or bleeding tendencies.
Functionality is impaired under warfarin therapy due to its vitamin K dependence.
