Target Information
The serum amyloid A (SAA) family consists of differentially expressed apolipoproteins, including acute-phase SAA1 and SAA2. SAA1 is the major plasma component, while constitutive SAAs are expressed in various tissues. Although the liver is the primary site of synthesis, extrahepatic production has been reported. In vivo concentrations can increase up to 1000-fold during inflammation. SAA is important for diagnosing and monitoring inflammatory diseases, often rising earlier and more sharply than CRP. Recent studies have expanded understanding of SAA’s expression and function.
