This antibody detects endogenous levels of total ILP-2.

Target Information

Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is related to many diseases such as cancer. Apoptosis is triggered by various stimuli including TNF family members and prevented by inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) proteins. IAP proteins form a conserved gene family including IAP, XIAP/ILP-1/MIHA, and Livin/KIAP that bind to and inhibit specific proteases.

A novel member of the IAP family, ILP-2 (IAP-like protein-2), was identified with high homology to ILP-1 but encoded by a distinct gene expressed solely in human testis. Unlike ILP-1, ILP-2 does not inhibit Fas or TNF-induced apoptosis but strongly inhibits apoptosis induced by Bax overexpression or caspase-9 coexpression with Apaf-1. ILP-2 interacts with processed caspase-9, suggesting its restricted specificity for caspase-9.
