Target Information
S100A12 is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing two EF-hand calcium-binding motifs.
S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells and are involved in regulating cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation.
S100A12 participates in calcium-dependent signal transduction pathways and may regulate cytoskeletal components, influencing neutrophil activities.
It is also a ligand for RAGE, activating mononuclear phagocytes, lymphocytes, and endothelium, and inducing NF-κB activation, a key transcription factor in inflammatory responses.
S100A12 has also been shown to possess antimicrobial properties.
