Target Information
ZFPM1 (Friend of GATA-1) is a transcription regulator essential for erythroid and megakaryocytic cell differentiation.
It functions as a cofactor forming heterodimers with GATA family transcription factors (GATA1, GATA2, GATA3).
These heterodimers can activate or repress transcription depending on cellular and promoter context.
They are essential for activation of genes such as NFE2, ITGA2B, alpha- and beta-globin, and for repression of KLF1.
ZFPM1 may also regulate genes in gonadal tissues and play a role in cardiac development alongside ZFPM2/FOG2.
