FGFR4는 수용체 티로신 키나아제 계열에 속하며, 혈관신생, 골형성, 근형성, 세포분화 및 손상 후 조직 복구 등 다양한 세포 기능을 조절합니다. 또한 암, 류머티즘성 관절염, 당뇨병성 망막병증 등의 질환과 관련이 있습니다. FGFR4는 FGF19에 반응하여 담즙산 합성의 속도 제한 효소인 CYP7A1의 발현을 정상적으로 억제하는 데 필요하며, 출생 후 폐 발달 및 골격근 세포 계통 발달에 관여할 수 있습니다.
