Target Information
ABCD2 is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. These proteins transport various molecules across membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies: ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, and White.
ABCD2 belongs to the ALD subfamily, involved in peroxisomal import of fatty acids and/or fatty acyl-CoAs. Peroxisomal ABC transporters are half transporters that require dimerization (homodimeric or heterodimeric) for functionality.
The specific function of ABCD2 remains unclear but is speculated to act as a dimerization partner for ABCD1 or other peroxisomal ABC transporters.
