Target Information
BACE2 (Beta Secretase 2) is responsible for the proteolytic processing of the amyloid precursor protein (APP). It cleaves APP between residues 690–691, leading to the generation and extracellular release of beta-cleaved soluble APP. BACE2 can also cleave APP between residues 671–672. Accumulation of APP is a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease and a frequent complication in adult Down syndrome patients.
