Target Information
Type I collagen is a fibrillar collagen found in most connective tissues and is a key component of cartilage. Mutations in the Type I collagen gene are linked to osteogenesis imperfecta, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and idiopathic osteoporosis.
Chromosomal translocations between chromosomes 17 and 22 involving this gene and PDGF beta gene are associated with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans due to unregulated growth factor expression.
Two transcripts have been identified from alternate polyadenylation signals.
