Target Information
The ADH5 gene encodes a member of the alcohol dehydrogenase family that metabolizes a wide variety of substrates, including ethanol, retinol, hydroxysteroids, and lipid peroxidation products. The encoded protein forms a homodimer and shows high activity for oxidation of long-chain primary alcohols and S-hydroxymethyl-glutathione, playing a key role in formaldehyde detoxification. The human genome also contains several non-transcribed pseudogenes related to this gene.
