Target Information
The small G protein GDP dissociation stimulator (smg GDS) is a regulatory protein with two main activities on small G proteins, including the Rho and Rap1 family members and Ki-Ras:
- Stimulates GDP/GTP exchange reactions.
- Inhibits interactions with membranes.
The protein encoded by this gene contains nine Armadillo repeats and interacts with the smg GDS protein through these repeats. It is concentrated around the endoplasmic reticulum and phosphorylated by v-src, which reduces its affinity for smg GDS.
It is thought to serve as a linker between human chromosome-associated polypeptide (HCAP) and KIF3A/B (a kinesin superfamily protein) in the nucleus, playing a role in chromosome–motor protein interactions.
Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
