Target Information

DNA-PK is a heterotrimeric, DNA-dependent protein kinase that initiates signaling cascades in response to DNA damage. It is an atypical kinase closely related to PI3 kinases and can be inhibited by PI3 kinase-targeting small molecules. DNA-PK encodes a component of the mediator complex, a transcriptional coactivator complex essential for gene expression. The mediator complex interacts with transcriptional activators or nuclear receptors to induce gene expression, possibly by facilitating RNA polymerase II pre-initiation complex formation. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
