Replication protein A (RPA) is a highly conserved eukaryotic heterotrimeric SSB that plays a crucial role in DNA replication, recombination, and repair.
RPA functions as a major damage-recognition structure in the early stage of nucleotide excision repair and may contribute to telomere maintenance.
Human RPA (hRPA) binds DNA with molecular polarity, initially at the 5′ side of ssDNA and extending toward the 3′ direction to form a stable complex.
RPA4 (Replication factor A protein 4), a 34 kDa subunit of RPA, consists of 261 amino acids, localizes to the nucleus, and is preferentially expressed in the mucosa of the colon and placenta.
