Target Information

FIBB is the beta component of fibrinogen, a blood-borne glycoprotein composed of three pairs of nonidentical polypeptide chains. Following vascular injury, fibrinogen is cleaved by thrombin to form fibrin, the major component of blood clots. Fibrinogen and fibrin cleavage products regulate cell adhesion and spreading, act as vasoconstrictors and chemotactic agents, and serve as mitogens for various cell types. Mutations in the FGB gene are associated with disorders such as afibrinogenemia, dysfibrinogenemia, hypodysfibrinogenemia, and thrombotic tendency.
