Antibody detects endogenous levels of total CD53.
Target Information
CD53 is a tetraspanin family transmembrane glycoprotein expressed in the lymphoid-myeloid lineage.
It forms complexes with leukocyte surface proteins such as CD2, CD19, CD21, MHC II, VLA-4, or tetraspanins CD37, CD81, and CD82, modulating various signaling processes.
CD53 contributes to tumor cell radioresistance and exerts anti-apoptotic effects upon activation.
In thymus, CD53 expression increases during T cell positive selection and is strongly induced in macrophages exposed to bacterial lipopolysaccharides, while neutrophil stimulation down-regulates CD53 expression.
