Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It functions as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and exists in both membrane-bound and soluble forms. CD14 binds lipopolysaccharides via LBP and plays a role in immune response modulation, including recognition of apoptotic cells and participation in allergic, inflammatory, and infectious processes. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants encoding the same CD14 isoform. CD14 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as Mycobacterium chelonae infection and croup.
