This antibody recognizes the alpha chain alone as well as the alpha/beta heterodimer.

Target Information

Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin receptor family, playing an integral role in signal transduction and T cell differentiation and activation.
CD8 is expressed on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer of CD8α and CD8β, functioning as a co-receptor with TCR for MHC-I molecules.
It is also found on subsets of NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells as CD8α homodimers.
Upon MHC-I/peptide complex ligation, CD8 recruits Lck kinase, leading to lymphokine production, motility, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation.
Activated CTLs are crucial for pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8+ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
