Target Information

Protein Kinase C (PKC) isoforms are serine/threonine kinases involved in signal transduction pathways that regulate differentiation, proliferation, gene expression, brain function, membrane transport, and the organization of cytoskeletal and extracellular matrix proteins.
PKC acts as a key regulator of cell cycle transitions, including entry, exit, and G1/G2 checkpoints. Its regulatory effect can be positive or negative depending on activation timing and isozyme type.
At least 12 PKC isoforms have been identified in humans, including alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, lambda, and mu. These isoforms differ in structure, localization, tissue distribution, and response to extracellular signals.
PKC beta II is particularly expressed in cardiac muscle, intestinal epithelium, kidney, and pancreas, and is implicated in cell cycle progression and cancer proliferation.
