Target Information
Hemoglobin subunit delta is encoded by the HBD gene in humans. The delta (HBD) and beta (HBB) genes are expressed in adults: two alpha chains plus two beta chains form HbA (approximately 97% of total hemoglobin), while two alpha chains plus two delta chains form HbA-2, which with HbF makes up the remaining 3%. Five beta-like globin genes are located within a 45 kb cluster on chromosome 11 in the order: 5'-epsilon-Ggamma-Agamma-delta-beta-3'.
