Scn10a mediates voltage-dependent sodium ion permeability in excitable membranes, forming sodium-selective channels that open or close in response to voltage changes. It plays a key role in neuropathic pain mechanisms.
Members of the Deg/ENaC superfamily share structural similarity, featuring two short intracellular termini, two transmembrane segments, and a large extracellular loop with a conserved cysteine-rich region. ENaC isoforms (α, β, γ) are essential for sodium and fluid balance in kidney, lung, and colon, and are regulated partly via CFTR interaction.
