Target Information

The mammalian muscle-type acetylcholine receptor (AChR) is a transmembrane pentameric glycoprotein composed of two alpha subunits, one beta, one delta, and one epsilon (adult skeletal muscle) or gamma (fetal and denervated muscle) subunit.
The CHRNG gene encodes the gamma subunit, expressed prior to the thirty-third week of gestation in humans. The gamma subunit plays a critical role in neuromuscular organogenesis and ligand binding.
Disruption of CHRNG expression prevents proper receptor localization in cell membranes. Mutations in this gene are associated with Escobar syndrome and a lethal form of multiple pterygium syndrome.
Muscle-type AChR is the major antigen in the autoimmune disease myasthenia gravis.
