Target Information
Hepatocyte Nuclear Factor 1 (HNF1, also known as Homeoprotein LFB3, Transcription factor 2, TCF2, or Variant hepatic nuclear factor) belongs to the homeodomain-containing superfamily of transcription factors. It is a liver-specific factor of the homeobox-containing basic helix-turn-helix family.
The protein binds DNA as a homodimer or as a heterodimer with hepatocyte nuclear factor 1-alpha. HNF1 has roles in nephron and pancreatic development. Mutations in the gene are associated with renal cysts and diabetes syndrome, noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, and altered expression in certain cancers. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
