배경 정보
This gene encodes a member of the keratin gene family. It is one of multiple type I hair keratin genes clustered in the region of chromosome 17q12–q21, all sharing the same transcription direction. As a type I hair keratin, the encoded protein is acidic and forms heterodimers with type II keratins to constitute hair and nails. Two isoforms, keratin 33A and keratin 33B, are encoded by separate genes.
